Model Citizen, 2013
Assembled 3D Prints, 3″ x 3″ x 6.5″
I first created a series of “Model Citizens” in 2D, first incorporated into my digital print “7 Model Citizens”. I’ve been wanting to delve into the world of 3D printing to create sculptures and these objects are my first experiments with this technology. I created this model with the 3d program Sketchup. I will be having this first model printed on a Makerbot Replicator 2. I hope to have this model ready for the Ingenuity Cleveland 2013 Festival.
For those uniniated with 3D printing, below is an excerpt from Wikipedia:
Additive manufacturing or 3D printing is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an additive process, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes. 3D printing is also considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling (subtractive processes).
